Professor N. Louise Glass has been awarded a Humboldt Research Award by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for her achievements in the field of fungal genetics.
Glass, chair of the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology at UC Berkeley, was nominated for the award by Dr. Ulrich Küch, a leading scientist in fungal genetics and biotechnology at the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany. Glass will spend about six months of the 2015/2016 academic year in Germany and will use the Humboldt research award to collaborate with Dr. Kück, as well as other German fungal geneticists at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Universität Düsseldorf, Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt, the Technische Universität München, Technische Universität Braunschweig and the Max Planck Institute in Marburg.
Glass was also awarded an August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professorship and will be traveling to Munich in September 2015 to collaborate with former Energy Biosciences Institute colleague Dr. Philipp Benz, who is currently an assistant professor at the Technische Universität München.
