An imaginative video earned Joyce Chery, a graduate student in the Chelsea Specht Lab (Plant & Microbial Biology), a $1,000 prize and recognition from UC Berkeley's graduate division.

Chery is a first year graduate student in Integrative Biology. Her video was submitted as part of the 2015 Distinguished Fellows Video Contest, a competition open to Chancellor's and other distinguished graduate fellows across campus. The videos submitted by graduate students highlight their reason for coming to Cal and contributing to the diversity of the campus community.

"I knew I would be challenged at UC Berkeley intellectually and I knew that I would be supported by the Specht lab to study exactly what I wanted. It was an easy choice coming to Cal," Chery said.

She won 2nd place in the Distinguished Graduate Fellowship Video Contest for travel money to attend an academic conference.

Chery investigates the evolution of plants, specifically the diversification of woody vines in the neo-tropics.

Check out Chery's video below, plus the videos of the other winners in the contest.
