Cal Undergrad Awarded with $5,000 Prize

August 23, 2013

Anna Calamonaci--UC Berkeley graduating senior--was recently honored with the Howard Walton Clark Prize in Plant Breeding and Soil Building. Nominated by PMB professor Renee Sung, the annual prize is to be given to the "senior student in the College of Agriculture whose high scholastic achievement, talent for independent research, and other characteristics, with particular reference to either plant breeding (leading to new/improved crops and new/improved varieties using appropriate tools) or soil building (leading to improving soil quality related to soil productivity and sustainability as a resource), seems to show the greatest promise." To this, Calamonaci owes her success to herself with her research work through Sponsored Projects for Undergraduate Research (SPUR). In addition to being honored, the award comes with a $5,000 prize. Congratulations Anna!
