"Use of Synthetic Biology to Improve Bioenergy Crops"
Monday 4/21, 101 Barker, 12pm - 1pm
Dominique Loque, director of Cell Wall Engineering at the Joint Bioenergy Institute, will present a seminar on bioenergy crops as part of the "Local Talent" seminar series.
As humanity continues to advance in an increasingly energy dependent world, alternative energy sources will become more vital than ever before. One promising source, bioenergy, will be the subject of Loque's seminar. A current challenge in the field of bioenergy is optimization, and Loque seeks to present new developments.
"Dominique Loqué’s current research activities involve the optimization of plant development and biomass characteristics for sustainable energy-crop and bioenergy production. He is developing synthetic biology tools for plant engineering – applicable to many plant species – to reduce cell-wall recalcitrance and, ultimately, optimized energy-crop production."
