The Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation announced today that Ksenia Krasileva, a professor in the Department of Plant & Microbial Biology, has been selected to join the 2019 cohort of Moore Inventor Fellows. The Moore Inventor Fellowship supports scientist-inventors who create new tools and technologies with a high potential to accelerate progress in the foundation’s areas of interest: scientific discovery, environmental conservation and patient care.
Krasivela and her lab group combine technologies such as genome editing and synthetic biology with fundamental research in order to improve food security. The work boosts plant immunity by disabling pathogens, promising to improve genetic disease resistance in crops. As a fellow, Krasivela will continue to study how to protect homogenous crops from rapidly-evolving pathogens.
Krasileva is one of five fellows chosen from over 200 nominations this year. She will receive funding from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation over the next three years to drive her research forward.
