As a leading public institution, UC Berkeley strives to serve the state of California, as well as the global community, through state-of-the-art research and scholarship.
The pursuit of knowledge and societal impacts of scientific research are best realized in an environment that solicits and nurtures a diversity of opinions and experiences. Unfortunately, systemic biases have limited the inclusion of women and underrepresented groups in the scientific community throughout history.
At PMB, we value a welcoming and inclusive department and are working to rectify existing inequities. We are committed to recruiting and supporting students, postdoctoral scholars, staff and faculty that represent diverse backgrounds and worldviews.
We aim to educate our community about barriers faced by underrepresented groups and work together to solve these pressing issues. In addition, our students and faculty actively develop and participate in numerous outreach programs in order to advance our message of public service and inspire the next generation of scientists.
